Kodak Gallery Cyber Monday Sale: 30% Off + Free Shipping

kodak_gallery_cyber_monday.pngThe Kodak Gallery is offering a two-pronged Cyber Monday deal if you're looking to share your photos in one way or another this holiday season. They say "30% off when you spend $25, + free shipping." The wording on the two sales is a little odd, so let's pick them apart to make sure you're able to make the most out of the special.

The first deal lets you save 30% if you spend $25 or more, and expires tomorrow, November 30. There's no coupon required for this one, and it's good for everything at their store excluding 4x6 prints, so you can use it for photo books, wall art blowups, photo cards, ornaments - pretty much everything.

It's the "+ free shipping" part that might trip you up. You can only get free shipping if you spend at least $40, so that means it's possible to get both deals, but you'll have to spend a lot more than $25. This deal is good through 12/6 - just use the discount code SHIP40 at checkout.

To do your shopping and learn more about the deal, head on over to Kodak Gallery.

flickr Friday: Love Snow

Philly Snow Storm, Dec. 19, 2009

At this point I'm still looking forward to the prospect of a big snow year - but just ask me again come January or so. I was looking for an image that represented loving snow, and you can't get too much more literal than the word "love" being snowed on.

This image was taken by Kevin Burkett with a Nikon D90.

Pitcher This Photography on Facebook

pitcher_this_photography_cards.jpgI've never used Picture Snob to endorse a particular photographer, but a friend of mine is starting a photography-related business, so I figured I'd give her a shout out. The official website is still in the works, but you can "like" Pitcher This on Facebook so you get the word as soon as it goes live. Here's their story, straight from the horse's mouth:

Pitcher This Photography started as a simple request from my mom. She loved the handmade cards I created as a kid pieced together with with a box of crayons, an over-abundance of glue and a lot of love. Even though years have passed since my last construction paper birthday card, she still requests custom cards on special occasions. I finally took her request seriously and combined her love of my cards with my passion for photography. The outcome is Pitcher This Photography - handmade photo greeting cards.

Kodak PlaySport HD Waterproof Pocket Video Camera Bundle

kodak_playsport_waterproof_video_camera.jpgI mentioned last week I'm looking for some kind of wearable camera for when I'm on the slopes, but I'm wondering if I shouldn't be thinking more about durability and waterproofing. I don't fall often when I ski, but when I do I fall hard, and it's into wet snow. Maybe the Kodak Playsport will offer more of the performance I'm looking for.

Heads up, adrenaline junkies. The Kodak PlaySort has as much appetite for adventure as you do. And it's not afraid to get wet. This audacious little camera can plunge up to 10 ft under water and capture the entire experience in full 1080p HD. And you don't need to worry about blurry footage when things get a little shaky. With built-in image stabilization, the Kodak PlaySort will stay steady as a rock. From the waves, to the slopes, to the mud-soaked trails, this baby was made for the extremes.

American Photo Magazine Subscription

american_photo.jpgThere are three main reasons I can think of that you might want to subscribe to American Photo magazine:

  1. You're interested in photography and want to learn more about the nuts and bolts, as well as see great examples of the work of others as inspiration.
  2. You're hoping the magazine will be a step up from National Geographic in terms of arty photos of lady parts, and offer some kind of plausible deniability.
  3. Some combination of the above.

All of these things are reasonable. How do I know? For point one, the product description:

This magazine is for men and women interested in creative photography. It profiles the personalities behind the lens and their contributions to art, history, fashion, journalism, and advertising. American Photo often features reviews of exhibitions and books, readers' photos and requests and picture portfolios and stories on working professionals.

For point two, a subscriber comment - "there are a lot "artistic" images that can be disturbing and there is a lot nudity mixed in almost gratuitously." See? A little something for everybody.

2010 Tachyon XC Micro Helmet Camera

xc_micro_helmet_camera.jpgWith ski season coming up, I've been on the market for a good wearable video camera. Why, you ask? Because I think it'd be awesome to relive some of my runs, maybe take some video of the people I'm skiing with. I don't know much about wearable cameras - I'd read about the Looxcie, but Wired gave it a luke-warm review.

That's why we like the Tachyon XC, which features. one-button operation, a 90-degree wide-angle lens, and a 4-hour battery life with two AAA batteries. It's shock-proof, and uses 4 to 32GB MicroSDHC memory cards. It's cheaper and more rugged than the Looxcie, and we like the product description:

Designed for filming action in extreme conditions, the XC Micro comes with a universal mounting system that can connect the camera to goggles, helmets, sporting equipment, dashboards and more to accommodate the many diverse situations users run into. The sheer size, simplicity and extreme ruggedness of the XC Micro will allow users to forget the camera and focus on their sport.

Panasonic Lumix DMC-FZ40 14.1 MP Digital Camera

panasonic_lumix_dmc_fz40.jpgAfter posting the flickr Friday Banksy photo, I've been curious about the Panasonic Lumix series. I like the fact it's a slightly larger point and shoot camera, which gives me the feel of being an honest-to-goodness photographist (that's the word, right?) Some of the smaller cameras feel more portable, and it's easier to toss them in a pocket, but sometimes you just want a camera that feels like a camera. So what else does the Lumix DMC-FZ40 offer?

It's got 14.1-megapixel resolution and a 24x optical zoom with 25mm wide-angle Leica DC Vario-Elmarit lens, as well as a three-inch screen on the back, which is much more generous than most of the pocket-style cameras. You can also take HD video, and take advantage of all kinds of intelligent photography modes.
